Contract for modification of T-72 signed

Contract for modification of T-72 signed 22.07.2019

The PGZ S.A. Consortium, together with Zakłady Mechaniczne „BUMAR-ŁABĘDY” S.A. and Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne S.A. which belong to the PGZ GROUP, concluded the contract for the repairs and modifications of T-72 tanks with the 1st Regional Logistics Base in Wałcz. Zakłady Mechaniczne „BUMAR-ŁABĘDY” S.A. is the Consortium’s Technical Integrator. The value of this order is 1.75 billion PLN and the works will be carried out from 2019 to 2025.

The contract was signed on the premises of Zakłady Mechaniczne „BUMAR-ŁABĘDY” S.A. in the presence of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and the Minister of National Defence Mariusz Błaszczak.

We are rebuilding our capacities in the field of armoured technologies, which had been the pride of our defence industry for years. Restoring the capabilities and production capacities both in Gliwice and in Poznań is yet another step on the road to establishing an industrial base for work on the new tank for the Polish Armed Forces,” said Witold Słowik, the president of the board of PGZ S.A.

The contract provides for the performance of the task during the years 2019-2025 by the Consortium consisting of PGZ S.A., Zakłady Mechaniczne „BUMAR-ŁABĘDY” S.A., and Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne S.A. Other companies belonging to the PGZ Group will also be involved in the modification works, including but not limited to PCO S.A. and OBRUM sp. z o.o.. The value of the contract had been estimated to be 1.75 billion PLN.

“Performing the task in question with the capacities of the Group’s two leaders in the field of armoured technologies will allow us to begin and complete the individual stages of the works faster and to better utilise the production capacities of both companies. Building competencies while working on the T-72 tanks at both centres will also allow us to expand our offering of modernisation packages for potential foreign partners,” said Sebastian Chwałek, vice-president of the board of PGZ S.A.

Polish industry has many years of experience in the armoured technology segment. Zakłady Mechaniczne „BUMAR-ŁABĘDY” S.A. has more than 65 years of experience in production and repairs of tanks and vehicles with caterpillar chasses. Basing on this experience and the capabilities of other PGZ Group companies, Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A. is working on creating a comprehensive system of logistical support dedicated to maintenance and modernisation of main battle tanks used by the Polish Armed Forces.

Modernisation packages and repair services for all types of armoured vehicles include, among other things, PT-91 tanks, WZT-2 and WZT-3 armoured recovery vehicles , as well as various models of the T-72 tank. The company carried out Leopard tank inspections on level F6. Zakłady Mechaniczne „BUMAR-ŁABĘDY” S.A. is the primary contractor in the modernisation of the Leopard 2A4 tanks to version 2PL.
